NGT directed the state government and concerned authorities to prepare an action plan to control and prevent pollution of the Bellandur lake and initiate restoration and rejuvenation process.
A task force was formed constituting experienced senior officers consisting of BDA, KSPCB, Minor Irrigation Department, Lake Development Authority, CPCB, and a professor from IISc for strict and timely implementation of the present recommendations.
Industries in the catchment areas were directed to be closed by the NGT.
The inflow of non-treated sewage into lake waters was directed to stop completely. It was made mandatory for STPs to provide for treating/removing Phosphorus and Nitrogen nutrients.
Officials were warned with severe action if the directives and recommendations were not adhered to.
The state government has allotted Rs. 450 crores for the rejuvenation of both Bellandur and Varthur lakes. A comprehensive action plan was framed to utilise this grant properly for de-weeding/desilting of the lakes.
MoEF & CC in conjunction with other ministries were directed to prescribe limits for Phosphorus in soaps and detergents.
The housing societies and upcoming buildings were instructed to construct sewage treatment plants (STPs). Strict laws and fines were implemented on apartments and commercial establishments for non-compliance to rules.
Non-compliance to Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules, 2016 was brought into notice.
